Traffix Group adapted its robust driver distraction assessment framework, usually used for digital advertising signage, to assess a proposed helicopter landing site in Wodonga—demonstrating that robust road safety tools can offer insight far beyond their typical use.

This approach has also been used to evaluate distraction risks from wind turbines, showing its versatility across diverse planning scenarios.

Expert evidence was presented at VCAT by Charmaine Dunstan, supported by James Young, contributing to a successful planning outcome.

Our involvement included the development of a vehilce access ramp to the beach for life saving vehicles and beach cleaning machinery, and included vehicle specific ground clearance assessments. Works also included the treatment of the Bay Trail interface with pedestrians / vehilces and the design of the carpark.

Our role involved the investigation of comprehensive crash data, development of treatments to reduce future crashes from occuring and the preparation of concept level designs and other supporting documentation.

Given the limited project timeframe, a dedicated project team was established and was able to provide the numerous outputs required in a period of 2-3 weeks

The study developed innovative proposals to address potential road safety issues associated with through traffic, current cycling conditions and prioritise pedestrian movements in the area.

The project also included several rounds of community and stakeholder consultation, with traffic engineers conducting engaging and informative community meetings throughout the study process.

As part of this project, we visited 85 individual public recreational areas, assessing the existing traffic management arrangements, collborating with local staff and preparing a site specific traffic management plan for each site.

Each traffic management plan was prepared to improve the safety and operation of the site, with an overarching traffic management approach developed to address common issues and provide guidance on their resolution, supported by cost estimates for each site.
